Low-Fat Vegan Diet Rivals Oral Diabetes Medications in Federally
Funded Study
Imagine if the western world had a system of health
designed around the principles of prevention rather than treatment.
Imagine going to the doctor each month for prevention advice,
instead of waiting until you were sick and then seeking a cure.
Through truthful knowledge about diet and nutrition this could
be achieved. Billions of dollars could be saved each year and
the people would be healthier.
The
Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) was founded
in 1985 and is a nonprofit organization that promotes preventive
medicine, conducts clinical research, and encourages higher standards
for ethics and effectiveness in research. The committee is comprised
of many highly respected scientists and doctors and they work
collaboratively with many top Universities and funding bodies
to perform their research. Their website www.pcrm.org
is full of interesting studies they have performed and really
throws a spanner in conventional medical thinking. While advocating
a vegan diet, they perform many scientific studies aimed at finding
the real cause of many diseases, such as diabetes and cancer,
as opposed to just seeking methods to alleviate the symptoms once
they appear. Their latest groundbreaking research discovery is
that a low-fat vegan diet is the best method for controlling
type 2 diabetes.
They also publish a quarterly magazine and manage
a series of informative websites which help to explain their research
findings and dispel many health myths. Below is a list of these
websites and a summary of each:
- Atkins
Diet Alert - www.AtkinsDietAlert.org
Scientific studies show that low-carbohydrate diets raise
cholesterol levels in a considerable number of individuals,
sometimes to a dramatic degree. These diets also typically
accelerate calcium losses and have led major health organizations
to raise important questions about their possible contribution
to heart problems, kidney abnormalities, osteoporosis, and
other health problems.
- The
Cancer Project - www.CancerProject.org
The Cancer Project provides comprehensive educational
materials, conducts clinical research studies, and publicizes
the value of a healthy diet in cancer prevention and survival.
- Dissection Alternatives - www.DissectionAlternatives.org
Studies have shown that students who learn from dissection
alternatives-including interactive computer
programs and videos-do as well as or better
on anatomy tests than students who learn by dissecting animals.
- Healthy Eating for Life Series - www.HealthyEatingSeries.com
A series of books that features healthy, vegan recipes
and covers such important issues as diabetes, proper nutrition
for children of all ages, healthy foods for women, and anti-cancer
eating plans.
- Healthy School Lunch Campaign - www.HealthySchoolLunches.org
Dedicated to improving the food served to children in
schools by educating government and school officials, food
service workers, parents, and others about the food choices
best able to promote children's current and long-term health.
- Humane
Charity Seal of Approval - www.HumaneSeal.org
Aimed to help donors to spot charities that are
committed to providing vital services and care to patients
or advancing research without the use of animals.
- Neal
Barnard, M.D. - www.NealBarnard.org
Clinical researcher and author Neal Barnard, M.D., is
one of America's leading advocates for health, nutrition,
and higher standards in research
- Safe
Diets - www.SafeDiets.org
High-protein, low-carbohydrate diets (such as the Atkins
Diet) have been an on-and-off fad for several years but are
now known to cause significant calcium losses and other health
problems. Very-low-calorie diets can slow your metabolism,
making it hard to keep the pounds from coming back later.
In contrast, low-fat, vegan diets bring healthy weight loss
and other major health benefits, from reduced cholesterol
levels to lower risk of high blood pressure and diabetes.
- Strong
Bones - www.StrongBones.org
A major study
shows that the amount of calcium girls consumed during the
teen years had no impact on bone strength. Exercise,
however, had a huge positive effect. For strong bones, kids
need weight-bearing activity, sunlight, and a diet rich in
fruits and vegetables. And evidence shows that dairy product
consumption contributes to obesity, ear infections, constipation,
respiratory problems, heart disease, and some cancers.
- Trauma
Training - www.TraumaTraining.org
Many medical centers offer courses to teach physicians
the techniques involved in emergency care for trauma patients.
The best of these trauma courses offer realistic training
using human cadavers and life-like simulators to demonstrate
and allow development of invasive trauma skills.
- Vegetarian
Nutrition Course - www.VegetarianCourse.org
An online vegetarian nutrition course that can be used
as credits towards a college degree.
And it's not just the PCRM that is helping to revolutionize
the health industry, but the Australian Competition and Consumer
Commission also just announce the Medicines Australia Code of
Conduct which greatly increases the transparency of the pharmaceutical
industry. For many years doctors have attended lavish 'educational
seminars' held by large pharmaceutical companies in an attempt
to encourage doctors to promote and prescribe their products.
Under the new code of conduct, a website will be set up where
the pharmaceutical companies will be required to disclose all
their spending that has been directed towards doctors in the form
of seminars, holidays, cruises, dinners etc.
It appears that the world really is changing and
that truthfulness and transparency is becoming a reality. Imagine
the day when the world is all truth and love, it appears the wheel
is already turning.
