Self Help

There is many different forms of self help available, but here we will discuss a holistic method that can be used to heal many different kinds of emotional, physical and spiritual problems.

Many people need self help at some stage of their lives. The need usually arises out of a change that is waiting to happen, as emotional and spiritual seeds of progress bubble into a person consciousness. These seeds can often be vital turning points in a person life and can manifest in many ways, such as a change in relationships, feelings of sadness or depression, the death of friends or family, health issues, and others.

Unexpected situations always arise in our lives, and this is the nature of life as a human. The way in which we deal with these situations is a result of our expectations of life and the people and situations around us. In times of great stress the Buddhist teachings of non-attachment are of great value, and practicing these methods before large events happen can help to prepare us for life's often rocky path.

Practicing good eating habits and meditation would have to be the two most effective means of self help. The good eating habits keep the body healthy and allow it to deal with stress when it arises, and the meditation allows a person to help keep control over their minds and stay above situations.

Whether a person is already in need of help, or they would like to be prepared when stressful situations or changes arise, the following is a recommended set of tools to help deal with stress, depression, ill health and many other problems.

Self Help Method

The following self help method consists of 2 parts, being a healthy body and a healthy mind.

To achieve a healthy body it is recommended to ultimately eat a vegan diet, or at least dramatically cut back meat consumption. When animals die they get stressed and the stress causes chemicals to be released into their bodies, these chemicals then enter our bodies when we eat the flesh, and in turn affects us. Meat is the cause of the main diseases in western countries such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer. For those who doubt this please refer to the book 'The China Study'.

A colon cleanse or detox is also a good thing to do while changing the diet, as this helps to remove old residues and assist the body in healing itself. Many people report greater feelings of happiness, peace and well being after cleansing and switching to a vegetarian or vegan diet.

Animal meat can be substituted with vegan meat alternatives, that taste similar, have a similar texture, and are much healthier and less taxing on the body. We would recommend the soy versions, as they are easier to digest than the gluten varieties, but even the gluten varieties are much healthier than animal flesh. Usually these kind of foods can be found in the supermarket fridge or freezer section, organic and health shops and also asian supermarkets.

The second important step is to find some kind of meditation practice. We recommend the Quan Yin Method as taught by Supreme Master Ching Hai. Along with the meditation comes introspection which helps a person to realize the source of their inner discomfort, and face it with courage. The meditation also helps the person to realize who they really are and become a more independant and whole person, thus leading to greater inner strength in times of need. The ultimate in helping ones self.

It is also important to exercise and spend some time outdoors in nature, fresh air can do amazing things to ones well being. If you have good friends then take them with you, if your friends are not good, leave them at home, permanently. Removing negative situations and people from your life is an important step in moving forward, and this will make room for new people to enter your life.
